These brooches are a result from a collaboration between ECU and VCU for a show in their annual symposium. My partner was Nadia Massoud and I sent her cermic pieces I was working on at the time, and she sent me etched steel plates. We then seperately worked on two individual works that speak to our connection. These four brooches trace the lines of her etchings, and are individually titled to inform different distances we were during our making processes. The distance of VCU to ECU and from Penland to Greenville. The distance from her studio assistant cabin at Penland during the summer of 2017 to the distance of mine the following fall concentration; and finally the steps from the cabins to the studio assistant desk at upper metals. I made prints of the plates with the assistance of Jay Fox during my concentration, and then hacked them up. I interwove the floss to provide structure and give a hint to my current body of work.
